The number one reason that attendees come to the International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) is to see new products and innovations, and they won’t be disappointed at the 2007 edition of ICUEE, also known as The Demo Expo.
ICUEE 2007 is already larger than the previous two shows and now tops more than 1.1 million net square feet – 25-plus acres - of exhibits of the latest equipment, technologies and products for the utility and construction industry. (That’s 103, 544 net square meters or 10 hectares.)
ICUEE will run October 16-18, 2007 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The biennial show features equipment exhibits and demonstrations plus education for industry professionals with electric, sewer/water, phone/cable, gas, general construction, government and landscaping jobs. At ICUEE they’ll find the information they need to enhance job productivity and make qualified decisions for business growth.
The 2007 show will include a new Technology Pavilion and a New Products and Innovations program spotlighting new-to-market products since the last ICUEE, held in 2005.
ICUEE 2007 has expanded its hands-on working equipment demonstrations with a new “ride and drive” program for on-road commercial vehicles. The new program complements ICUEE’s extensive equipment demonstrations of in-ground as well as aerial and other above-ground work applications. Attendees can operate the equipment themselves in job-like conditions to experience and compare product features.
ICUEE has also expanded its educational opportunities, both pre-show and during the show, providing added value to show attendees. Industry-focused classroom sessions, field exercises, certification courses and a field trip will be offered.
Underground Construction Technology (UCT) will again conduct a special co-located education program. All show seminars will offer attendees CEUs - Continuing Educational Units.
An estimated 17,000 industry professionals from around the world are expected to attend ICUEE 2007 and take advantage of this one-stop shopping, education and networking opportunity. The latest show details are available online at www.icuee.com, and attendees can also register online and obtain housing.
ICUEE Online – Pre-Plan Your Visit with Interactive Virtual Trade Show The ICUEE 2007 website features an interactive Virtual Trade Show (VTS) to help attendees pre-plan their visit to the show. This VTS includes a company and product locator searchable by company name, booth number, product or key word. A new feature is an interactive map of the show floor. Using the virtual trade show information and map, attendees can assemble a personalized list of the exhibitors and products they most want to see onsite.
Attendees can also use the website to register in advance for the show’s exhibits and seminars and make hotel reservations. ICUEE 2007 website visitors will find the latest information on exhibits, seminars and other show features as well as information about the host city of Louisville. Selected site information is available in Chinese, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
Register in Advance to Save Time and Money Attendees can save time and money by registering in advance, with full details available online at www.icuee.com. Advance registration for ICUEE 2007 is $10 per person and closes September 21, 2007. After that date, attendees must register onsite, and the onsite registration fee is $20.
Attendees can also go online to register for the show’s education programs as well as to obtain housing. Registrations can also be made via fax or mail.
More than 40 Education Opportunities Address Industry Trends and Issues ICUEE 2007 will offer attendees a wider variety than ever before of pre-show and at-show educational sessions targeting underground, above-ground and overhead applications. More than 40 educational seminars will focus on the latest in technology and innovations, fleet management, safety and regulatory trends that impact the utility and construction industry. A special feature is a co-located educational program conducted by Underground Construction Technology (UCT).
Seminars on above-ground and overhead equipment technologies and trends will complement the UCT offerings. New for the 2007 ICUEE is that all show seminars will offer Continuing Educational Units (CEUs) credit to attendees.
ICUEE 2007 education is geared to meet the professional-development needs of all industry segments: electric, sewer/water, phone/cable, gas, general construction, government and landscaping. Session topics will be grouped into tracks, including industry trends, equipment/fleet management, safety and standards, and management issues.
Attendees receive extra value by participating in pre-show programs that will start just prior to the opening of ICUEE 2007. These include an advanced horizontal directional drilling (HDD) workshop conducted by UCT and two certification courses from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Other educational opportunities at ICUEE 2007 include a Trench Rescue Awareness Program from the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) and a Fiber Restoration Exhibit by the North American Telecommunications Damage Prevention Council (NTDPC), as well as a field trip to the McAlpine Locks and Dam.
The NUCA Trench Awareness Program will help contractors and rescue personnel better understand trench safety issues, including hidden hazards associated with trench rescue operations. The NTDPC exhibit will include live fiber optic splicing as part of its overview on what forms an underground fiber optic telecommunications network and what is required to repair it when damaged.
The educational field trip to the McAlpine Locks and Dam will focus on the site’s nearly complete reconstruction project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Also on the tour is the adjacent LG&E Hydroelectric Plant and Louisville repair station for port equipment.
Attendees Will Find More Working Equipment Demonstrations, Upgraded Exhibits Facility The 2007 ICUEE will feature expanded exhibit areas and a reconfigured layout for easier navigation of the show site. Indoor exhibits, as well as show seminars and meetings, will be located in the exposition center’s new South Wing, offering “class A” facilities. For added convenience, there will be two registration areas and drop-off points for the official hotel shuttle buses. And, an intra-show tram system will run during show hours.
Attendees will find it easier to locate the newest products and technology on display at ICUEE 2007. A new Technology Pavilion will highlight exhibits of the latest industry-related software and hardware. In a special New Products and Technology program, participating exhibitors can spotlight their new-to-market company offerings since the last ICUEE, held in September 2005.
A hallmark of the ICUEE exposition is that attendees can actually operate the equipment in outdoor product demonstrations simulating real life working conditions. ICUEE has expanded its working equipment demonstrations with a new “ride and drive” program for the 2007 event which spotlights on-road commercial vehicles.
The new “ride and drive” program builds on ICUEE’s reputation as The Demo Expo. Attendees will be able to take to the “open road” to test and better compare on-road commercial vehicles for the utility and construction industry as well as truck engines and components, transmissions, power systems, clutch and brake systems, safety and collision warning systems, fleet, fuel and GPS management systems, and hybrid and alternative fuel systems.
ICUEE also features outdoor exhibit space that is suitable for shallow digging, in addition to areas for deep digging. Hard-asphalt exhibit space accommodates above ground and overhead demonstrations.
Construction and utility equipment displayed at ICUEE includes (but is not limited to) all terrain carriers, attachments, components, earthmoving, environmental, light, overhead, maintenance, material handling, recycling, safety, testing, transportation, trenching, trenchless, trucks, utility materials/supplies and vacuum excavation, as well as related products and services.
Current exhibitor lists and an overview show map are available online.

ICUEE History: From Modest Beginnings in a Farm Field to Industry Leader Since its inception in 1964, the demonstration concept has been a defining characteristic of the ICUEE exhibition. From its humble beginnings as a modest equipment demonstration by one company in an Illinois farm field, ICUEE has grown to become the industry's leading demonstration exposition and one of the largest exhibitions of any industry in the United States.
The show is owned and produced by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), the North American-based international trade and business development group serving the off-road equipment manufacturing industry.
ICUEE traces its beginnings to 1964 when Illinois Bell invited 12 trencher manufacturers to demonstrate equipment on the same day in the same field in Elburn, Illinois as a means of solving an equipment evaluation and communications problem. The event was a huge success and continued to grow through the late 1960s and early 1970s. Because of its increasing size, Illinois Bell dropped sponsorship and it was run by a professional exposition management firm. The event continued to be known as the “Elburn show.”
The show took its current name in the late 1970s. One of AEM’s forerunner groups provided industry direction and in the late 1980s bought the show and began functioning as its sole owner and manager. The show moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in the late 1970s and to its present home of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1987.
