GREENSBORO, NC (March 10, 2010) – Mack
Trucks, Inc. finished 2009 as the leading exporter of heavy-duty North American
trucks. Mack had nearly one-third of
total truck exports from the U.S., Canada and Mexico to countries outside North America, with a 30.8% market
share.
Mack has made strategic
moves to strongly grow its presence in new and existing markets around the
world, and to satisfy the desire for American-style trucks in many
countries. This demand is particularly
strong for construction and heavy-haul applications, and Mack is well-positioned
to meet this demand via its extensive product range and access to the
infrastructure of its parent company, the Volvo Group.
“International sales
continues to be an area of opportunity and growth for Mack as we strengthen our
presence in established markets, such as Latin America and Australia, and grow
elsewhere, such as Africa and the Middle East,” said Ron Huibers, Mack senior
vice president, international. “Our
products have a strong reputation as the epitome of rugged, tough and reliable
American-style trucks.”
Mack’s ability to draw upon
the Volvo Group’s existing global infrastructure, with efficient logistics,
strong dealers and expanded customer financing, is an important advantage in
entering new markets. In addition,
Mack’s products complement the offerings of other Volvo Group business areas,
such as Volvo Construction Equipment – a customer already purchasing construction equipment from VCE might also
operate dump trucks or equipment transporters.
Mack International
recently appointed several executives as key members of its team to support
these opportunities.
Eduardo
Herrera
was named region vice president Latin
America. Herrera joined Mack
Trucks Venezuela in 1986, and served as corporate treasurer and general manager
of finance. In 1999 he became general
manager of the Eastern Area for Mack Trucks Venezuela. He moved to the U.S. in
2004 as director of international sales support and operations.
Peter
Hertinge
was named region vice president for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (EAME). He is responsible for optimizing the company’s
established distribution, while also establishing Mack in selected new markets
and segments. He has 12 years experience
with Volvo Group, most recently responsible for Mack in Australia where he was president of
Volvo Group Australia from 2004 until 2009.
Prior to that, Hertinge was plant manager of Volvo Trucks’ operation in
Umea, Sweden.
Govi
Kannan was
named vice president business
development & strategy. He brings a
strong background of commercial, strategic and operational skills in the
international construction industry. Previously, Kannan spent 10 years with Volvo Construction Equipment in
Singapore,
South Korea and North Carolina. He has engineering degrees from the National
University of Singapore, and a PhD from Virginia Tech in Construction
Engineering & Management.
Guilherme Blaschke was named vice president, international
aftermarket. He is responsible
for the development of aftermarket products and services. Blaschke has more than 23 years of experience
within the Volvo Group, most recently responsible for developing distributors in
Australia, Africa, the Middle
East and Latin America for Volvo Truck’s
International Division. Blaschke has a
degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidade Federal do Paraná and
post-graduate degrees in industrial management from Faculdade Católica de
Administração e Economia, and business management from Fundação Don Cabral, all
located in Brazil.
Herrera, Blaschke and Kannan are based in Greensboro, N.C. at Mack World Headquarters. Hertinge is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
