Smooth Operators

Operators
today are using machine control systems such as Caterpillar’s AccuGrade to
advance productivity on a variety of jobsites.

What does it take to be a smooth operator in today’s world of advanced heavy equipment? Operators work with machines that are increasingly outfitted with impressive equipment and instrumentation, from laser- and robotic- to GPS-guided indicate and automated systems.

Machine Management

Servicing
of machines can be automatically scheduled and managed, providing service
personnel with lead time and ensuring they have the correct tools and supplies.

Construction machines are costly--to acquire, operate, maintain and even to manage. Use the wrong machine for the job, run one past its scheduled service hours, misdiagnose a series of similar failures, rent a machine out only to have it misused, unused or sitting onsite with its engine idling… and you’ve got problems. Machine monitoring and remote management help solve some of these problems.

Lasers: The Stepping Stone Toward Machine Automation

Grading with the Topcon RL-H1Sa slope laser offers mid- to long-range single slope capabilities and self-leveling, allowing for superior accuracy over the entire grade range.

Traditionally, laser-based machine control has been one of the strongest methods for achieving vertical accuracies. And although GPS control is making great strides on construction jobs, it can be more costly.
