Allu buckets can be used in mass stabilization applications to turn soft soil into a firm foundation.
Allu
Allu promoted its new D series bucket and held a seminar to discuss how Allu attachments can aid in soil improvement. Allu promoted its products as cost-effective solutions to aid mass stabilization methods of adding binders to soil rather than piling or excavating an area and reintroducing harder materials.
Caterpillar

The Cat C6.6 ACERT engine is Tier 4 Interim solution.
Cat’s Industrial Power Systems division launched three new Tier 4 Interim engines at ICUEE: C3.4B, C4.4 ACERT and C6.6 ACERT. These engines will begin production and distribution prior to 2012. Cat announced that all of these engines have improved fuel consumption and position Cat with a competitive Tier 4 Interim solution.
Ditch Witch
Ditch Witch introduced seven new products at ICUEE: a RT45 trencher, MT45 microtrencher and a RT115 quad trencher. Also released were the XT855 excavator-tool carrier, JT100 all terrain directional drill, PR100 pipe bursting system and Zahn with track option.
Freightliner

Freightliner’s new Coronado SD features an advanced air intake system.
Freightliner held a press conference to unveil its new Coronado SD truck, which replaces the FLDSD. Freightliner claims the new model offers contractors more uptime, along with the “flash, polish and chrome” customers expect from this brand. Highlights of the new truck include its advanced air intake system, updated hood and reinforced doors.
JCB
JCB held a press conference on the second day of ICUEE. Mike Werner, vice president of customer support, announced that JCB is increasing market coverage, growing market share, improving parts availability and expanding its product range.
JCB also announced a new mini excavator, the 8065, which replaces the 8060. The 14,500-lb 8065 has an improved operator environment, pilot-operated controls, auto idle, and improved serviceability and visibility. It runs on an Isuzu engine and has a reduced tailswing of 7 inches.
Werner said, “It seems like kind of a crazy time to be launching something, but not really.” With that, he unveiled JCB’s line of light equipment of 32 products, including hydraulic power packs, breakers, augers, drills, wrenches, pumps and more. “We’ve been building light equipment for 28 years so this isn’t a rookie launch,” he said.
John Deere

John Deere’s D-series machines feature a vertical lift system in which the boom rises straight up and reaches out slightly.
Deere announced its new D-series compact track loaders and skid steers with the tagline: “The difference is in the D-Tails.”
Deere says it has listened to customers to create an all-new operating environment in these machines that begins with a pressurized, quiet cab and allows for easier ingress and egress. The entry/exit is eased by the swing-out door design and the pull-down lap bar.
Gregg Zupancic, Deere’s product marketing manager for CTLs and skid steers, explained that the D-series is Deere’s fourth generation of skid steer design. A critical aspect of the design is its vertical lift system, in which the boom rises straight up and reaches out slightly. According to Zupancic, this is good for dumping applications as well as protecting the cab and increasing visibility.
D-series machines also feature a 60/40 weight distribution with 40% of the machine weight on the front and 60% in back for stability.
The D-series includes five skid steers with rated operating capacity from 1,800 - 3,200 lb, and four compact track loaders with rated operating capacity from 1,900 - 3,300 lb.
IMT
Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT), an Oshkosh Corporation company, and Wells Fargo Equipment Finance, Inc. (WFEFI) have announced a new financing program for IMT equipment. The program is designed to provide unique and competitive financing options to IMT customers.
Financial product options with the new program include equipment loans, terminal rental adjustment clause (TRAC) leases and municipal equipment financing. Terms range in length from 36 to 84 months, and seasonal payments are also available. WFEFI will also work with IMT customers to provide other customized financing solutions in order to meet specific needs.
Liebherr
Liebherr exhibited its LIKUFIX coupling system. According to Liebherr’s Jeff Powell, LIKUFIX allows for “one-person in-cab operation.” The system allows the operator to switch hydraulic attachments from inside the cab, which increases safety and production.
Paladin

Contractors who purchase the Bradco combo mulcher to use on an ARRA project before the end of 2009 will receive a $500 rebate check from Paladin.
At ICUEE, Paladin Brands promoted itself as a one-stop shop of eight attachments brands: Bradco, CP, CustomWorks, FFC, Harley, JRB, McMillen and Sweepster.
Paladin launched a “Back 2 Work” campaign (
www.back2work.com ) with incentives to spur contractor purchases. The current incentive, which lasts through the end of 2009, is a rebate of $200-500 to a contractor on a purchase of an attachment for an ARRA-funded project. For example, any contractor who purchases the Bradco combo mulcher to use on an ARRA project will receive a $500 rebate check from Paladin.
PTH Products USA

PTH’s rock crusher uses existing rocks to maintain gravel roads.
The PTH-built rock crusher from Austria has been launched in North America. This attachment is specifically intended for gravel road maintenance because it uses existing rocks, which eliminates the need to purchase gravel or pay hauling costs. There are four models of crushers available.
Rockland
Rockland demonstrated its EZ-Dig, which has only been on the market for 18 months. This digging tool attachment is designed specifically for trenching in clay and other sticky soils. Its unique open-side design eliminates stickling.
Vermeer

Vermeer’s new TrenchSense electronic control system will soon be available on the 750.
Vermeer released TrenchSense, an electronic control system. At ICUEE, Vermeer used the dirt area in its outdoor booth to demonstrate the usefulness of this new system. To prevent engine stall, TrenchSense automatically pauses the forward creep of the tractor and backs up to dislodge obstacles. Because the system is automatic, it is able to react more quickly than a human operator. TrenchSense debuted on the 550 but will also become standard on new models of the 750. Older 750s can also be retrofitted with the automatic sensing system.
Volvo

Volvo is promoting its attachments during the market downturn as a way to increase machine utilization.
At ICUEE, Volvo highlighted its attachments, citing the increased utilization of attachments as one of the current trends in the market. Mike Strittmatter, an attachment specialist in the Volvo Construction Group, described some of Volvo’s attachments in more detail. Volvo’s soil rake “aerates and fluffs the soil so it’s ready to go,” he said, adding, “It lets one guy do in two hours what six guys couldn’t do in a day.”
