Nucor Steel Marion, Inc. introduces Nu-Cable TL-4, a 4-cable barrier system that complies with NCHRP 350 Test Level 4, and has the added benefit of being economical to install, maintain and repair.

Marion, Ohio (7/16/08) – Nucor Steel Marion, Inc. introduces Nu-Cable TL-4 cable barrier system that has not only passed the “box truck” crash test, it offers significant system savings.  Nu-Cable TL-4 costs 50 to 75% less than traditional W-beam and concrete barriers and up to 20% less than other high-tension cable systems to purchase.  Plus it is more economical to install, maintain and repair.

The new system, which complies with NCHRP 350 Test Level 4, utilizes strong yet economical 4-lb. RIB-BAK U-channel breakaway steel posts, which can be galvanized or powder coated for longer life.  Standard pre-stretched ¾”cables are attached to the posts with a unique system of locking hook bolts, cable hangars and clips that absorb energy during crashes. The system is anchored at both ends into FHWA-accepted end treatments.

The barrier system can be installed in median and roadside configurations, with posts economically installed in concrete socketed or direct-driven steel line post socketed foundations.  Not only is the system easy to install, it’s also easy to maintain and repair, resulting in continued savings beyond its lower installation costs.  Crews love the Nu-Cable TL-4 system because after it has been hit, it can often be repaired within 30 minutes.  Furthermore, Nu-Cable is visually appealing and does not block driver visibility like a concrete or w-beam system.

Specifications on the new cable barrier system have been submitted to all 50 state departments of transportation.  Call Nucor at (800) 333-4011 to determine the product’s status in your state.  Nu-Cable is also available in a 3-cable TL-3 compliant system.
